AMB. ALUSINE L. BANGURA

Northern Region

Representing the Northern Region is Alusine Lulu Bangura an indigene of Makeni City who holds a Diploma in Mass Communications and Higher National Diploma in Sustainable Development from the College of Management and Administration and is currently pursuing a Bachelor Degree in Public Administration at the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM). Whilst pursuing his academic goals, he was employed by series of organizations such as: Women Center for Good Governance and Human Rights where he served as the Regional Coordinator, Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) Makeni where he served as a reporter, presenter and programmes producer, he was also nominated as the Regional Public Relations Officer for the Technical Vocational Educational Training (TVET) Council and he is the Administrative Head of the Youth Build S/L.

According to the 2015 Housing and Population Census, Bombali District has an estimated population of six hundred and six thousand, five hundred and forty-four (606,544). The bulk of this number constitutes young people falling within the age bracket of 15-35 and are faced with challenges accessing basic social services and are unskilled.

It is with this reality that Alusine decided to use his skills and resources to act as a catalyst for a change lifestyle and perception amongst youth in his surrounding changing one life at a time. He started up with a Media Perception Change Campaign to encourage young people to change their mind-set and take charge of their lives taking conscious steps to address the situations they are faced with by providing tips on how they can chart their way to breakthrough, independence and productivity. He also went ahead to create avenues for young people to be gainfully employed by starting series of business ventures Bakery, Pharmacy, Mini -bar and Restaurant from his monthly earnings employing over 15 young people. Finally serving within the TVET Council and Youth Build SL he uses these opportunities to encourage more young people especially those who don’t think they belong to enrol for skills training, exploring all means to help them identify their interest areas, envision a future where they can meet their daily needs and live a more productive life.

Going forward Alusine intends to continue advocating for constructive dialogue between youth and stakeholders within his region, intensifying fundraising efforts to create a ‘Youth Empower Fund’ to help sponsor young people who are willing to undergo skills training but lack the requisite funds to do so.
